Animal Themed Inspirations
Animals dressed in clothing. What is more adorable? What is more Beatrix Potteresque than this? I will admit that my most favorite children's books as a child were those that aligned themselves with the English woman's storybook world, Thornton Burgess's Old Mother West Wind, Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, and of course, we can't forget our beloved Golden Books-basically the Bible of Children's books.
I remember being a little girl sitting on the back deck on a warm, breezy summer's evening as the sun began to kiss the top of West Mountain as she sank lower in the sky. She was on her way to tuck herself into bed, and with The Wind in the Willows resting in my lap, I would tease out the last of the sun's rays to further myself along the adventure in the pages of that book.
Stories like these wrapped me in cozy warmth among the folds of the characters and their world. I was safe within their hearts and moral codes. It was home, and it was the place I wanted to be.
Dreams of Authorship
These stories left such an impact on my life that I knew from a young age that I wanted to create my own world laced with the same comfort and kindness that I experienced when I entered those animal tales of laughter and mirth, respect and gentleness.
A groundhog who wears a blue coat and matching hat with a gigantic white pom-pom on top. A gentle porcupine teacher wearing wire-rimmed glasses and a green-and-red velvet dress. A grumpy, yet kind, old turtle sporting yellow goggles on his head and a grey scarf around his neck. Sable Groundhog, Miss Polly Porcupine, and Speedy Turtle are only a few of the personable characters that populate Timothy Hollow.
Why Have I Created These Characters?
I have created a world that can be your home, too. Timothy Hollow, Creature's Woods, MacAdam's Acres, Meadowlark Park, Primrose Peak, and all of these special locations are filled with critters who can make the worst days seem more bearable.
I created these characters to inspire, uplift, and comfort you during bright times, but most importantly during the darker ones as well. The Timothy Hollow series houses all of the lessons and morals I learned from meeting the characters of my author role models. They hold the hope that I have for our neighbors and friends-for a life spent wrapped in love, giving, community, and accomplishment.
This is Your Home, Too!
Timothy Hollow is always welcoming new neighbors. This is your neighborhood, too, and we are waiting for you. The candles are lit in the windows of your cabin, lighting your path. Miss Polly Porcupine and the critters of the Timothy Hollow Community can't wait to meet you.
Note: The Critter Tales Series is meant for all ages. The books are clearly marked for certain age groups, such as 5 to 7 and 7 to 9. However, I've written these books to be enjoyed individually and experienced together as a family. These books are meant for a wide range of individuals, whether it be a 5-year-old child who wants to read a story with Mama, an older child who wants to read an adventure animal novel, or the young-at-heart adult who savors stories of simpler times-where you can have a cup of tea with Sampson Squirrel and a warm slice of Maizey Mouse's famous pies.
These stories are meant to be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
